House Smell Like Fall Naturally
Is there anything better than walking into a house that smells like fall?
Cinnamon. Apples. Oranges. Cloves.
Basically, I want my house to smell like I’ve been baking all day—even when I absolutely have not.
If you’re wondering how to make your house smell like fall naturally, here are five simple ideas that don’t require much time or effort.
This post will NOT include: wall plug ins, wax candles, or store-bought room sprays. Nope. I keep things plant based. Ready? Let’s make it smell like fall without disrupting our hormones, shall we?
Smell Like Fall Naturally: Simmer Pot
1. Make an Easy Fall Simmer Pot
This may be the easiest way to make your whole house smell like autumn.
Add these to a pot:
- Sliced apple
- Sliced orange
- 2–3 cinnamon sticks
- A few whole cloves
- Water
Bring everything to a gentle simmer, then turn the heat down low.
That’s it!
As it warms, your kitchen starts smelling like you’ve suddenly become one of those women who bakes bread from scratch and has her entire life together.
Important: Keep an eye on the water level, add more water as needed, and never leave a simmer pot unattended.
Fall is one of my favorite seasons. Let’s embrace these delicious fragrances!!

Smell Like Fall Naturally: Baking
2. Bake Something Delicious
Sometimes the easiest natural air freshener is FOOD.
Try baking:
- Apple crisp
- Pumpkin bread
- Cinnamon muffins
- Apple pie
- Snickerdoodles
Bonus: Your house smells incredible AND you get dessert.
I consider this a win.

Smell Like Fall Naturally: Dried Items
3. Bring Autumn Into Your Home
You can create beautiful natural fall decorations using things like:
Pinecones + dried orange slices + cinnamon sticks + dried herbs.
Put them in a pretty bowl or basket on your kitchen counter or coffee table.
You get fall decor without needing another plastic pumpkin.
Although, let’s be clear.

I’m not giving up my plastic pumpkins.
Smell Like Fall Naturally: Room Spray (so fun) – do it with your kids
4. Make a Natural Fall Room Spray
You can also make your own fall-inspired room spray using essential oils.
Base Formula & Instructions
To make a room spray where the oil doesn’t separate or sink to the bottom:
- Emulsifier: Add 1–2 tablespoons of Witch Hazel (or high-proof clear grain alcohol/vodka) directly into your 4 oz glass spray bottle.
- Oils: Add your 25–30 drops of Young Living oil blends directly into the alcohol/witch hazel and swirl gently to combine.
- Top Off: Fill the rest of the bottle with distilled water (leaving room for the spray nozzle).Young Living Essential Oils
- Use: Shake well before each spritz to disperse evenly.
Tip: Always use a dark amber or cobalt glass bottle, as citrus and warm spice oils can degrade plastic over time.

Spritz it around the room when you’re expecting company—or when you’re sitting home alone in sweatpants pretending you’re at a cozy mountain cabin.
Both are acceptable.
Smell Like Fall Naturally: Diffuse
5. Diffuse the Smell of Fall
This is probably my favorite because it’s so easy.
Add a few drops of essential oil to your diffuser and suddenly the whole room feels different.
Try these simple fall diffuser combinations:
1. Warm Cider & Fireside Glow
A cozy, rich aroma that captures the essence of a warm kitchen and a crackling fire.
- 3 drops Thieves®
- 3 drops Citrus Fresh™
- 2 drops Abundance™
2. October Sweater Weather

- 3 drops Stress Away™

3. Crisp Mountain Hike
Sharp, fresh evergreen crispness balanced by grounding warmth.
- 3 drops Sacred Mountain™ (or Northern Lights Black Spruce™)
- 3 drops R.C.™ or Raven™
- 2 drops Thieves®
4. Golden Hour Sanctuary

- 3 drops Peace & Calming®
- 3 drops White Angelica™
- 2 drops Citrus Fresh™

Diffusing Tips for YL Blends
- Start lighter: Pre-formulated blends contain multiple heavy base oils (like Frankincense, Patchouli, and Myrrh), which tend to linger in a room longer than light citrus top notes. Start with 6 drops total and add more if needed.
- Diffuser maintenance: Heavier spice and resin blends (like Abundance™ or Thieves®) can leave a light residue inside the diffuser basin. Rinse out the well with a little warm water and wipe it clean every few days to keep mist output strong.
